Molybdenum filament and wire are widely used in electrical lighting technology. Of them produce hooks and loops that support the tungsten filament. They also serve for the manufacture of cores, with the help of which from a tungsten wire winding spiral.
Another application of this product is the fabrication of receiving-amplifying and generating lamp grids.
Also, molybdenum wire is used to manufacture electrodes for high-temperature thermocouples. These include thermocouples tungsten-molybdenum VM, allowing to measure temperatures up to 1800 ° C.
Another field of application is the fabrication of high temperature furnace heaters. The molybdenum heater can operate at temperatures up to 2000 ° C exclusively in a protective atmosphere that does not contain oxygen.
Molybdenum wire is made by the broach method. The starting material for its production are bars Ø less than 3 mm. Depending on the diameter and the required properties of the final product, the broach can be carried out with or without bars preheating. In the first case, a hot-drawn molybdenum wire is obtained, in the second – cold-drawn. After broaching, annealing (heat treatment) can be performed if necessary.
