Molybdenum powder is obtained in the course of reduction reactions from molybdenum oxides using hydrogen. It is a gray powder with a high degree of density and a high melting point. Depending on the functional purpose, molybdenum powder is distinguished by the size and shape of the grain, degree of oxidation, bulk capacity, etc.
Application
The main use of molybdenum powder is an alloying additive in the production of steel, cast iron and alloys. For these purposes, a powder with a molybdenum content of at least 99.5% is used. Specified refractory metal significantly improves the structure of structural steel and cast iron. Also molybdenum allows to improve the mechanical properties of steels and alloys, increases their red resistance, heat resistance, corrosion resistance.
Also, the powder is used to produce compact molybdenum. Using powder metallurgy methods, compact molybdenum in the form of rods is obtained from molybdenum powder. In this case, high purity molybdenum is used. Next, from the staffs are made tapes, sheets of rods, wire and other semi-finished products.
