Dysprosium is a rare earth metal with a silver sheen. It is not found in nature in pure form, but is part of some minerals.
Metallurgy. Dysprosium serves as an alloying component of zinc alloys. Adding dysprosium to zirconium dramatically improves its manufacturability
Laser materials. Dysprosium ions are used in medical lasers (wavelength – 2.36 microns)
Catalysts. Used as an effective catalyst.
Magnetic materials. Dysprosium oxide is used in the production of heavy duty magnets.
